Committee hears evidence from Theresa May

The Home Affairs Committee last heard from the Home Secretary in November. Since then she has faced questions over the introduction of a new alcohol strategy; the creation of the new UK Border Force following the Brodie Clark issue; and impact of extradition laws.
Most recently she has faced questions over the government's plans for new surveillance measures and the deportation of Abu Qatada.
This is an opportunity for the Committee to question the Home Secretary on these topical issues relating to the Home Office.

Committee Chair Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP said:
"With the Olympics less than 100 days away, airport border controls under intense pressure, police absorbing a far-reaching review of their pay and conditions, and the deportation of Abu Qatada, the Home Secretary’s appearance before the Committee could not be more timely.
We will also take the opportunity to begin scrutinising Government surveillance plans, in particular the interception of communications data and the implications for personal privacy."
