The Home Affairs Committee will take evidence from Sue Berelowitz regarding her recently published report on child sexual exploitation in gangs and groups.

The report which estimated that as many as 16,500 children could be being sexually exploited, was the result of a two year inquiry. The Committee will be asking the Deputy Children's Commissioner about her findings and the victims and officials that she met with during the course of the inquiry.

Chair's comments

Committee Chair, Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP, said:

"The report from the Office of the Children's Commissioner makes harrowing reading. The issue of child sexual abuse has been brought to public attention this year following the Rochdale trial and more recent events. There have obviously been failings in various agencies which have let down the victims of these predators. We hope that Ms Berelowitz's findings will help us to ensure that these failings are not repeated in the future."
