The House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee will take evidence tomorrow from John Swinney MSP, the Scottish Government’s Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Employment and Sustainable growth as part of their inquiry into the economic implications for the United Kingdom of Scottish independence.

Witness

At 3.35pm, Tuesday 11 December, Committee Room 2, Palace of Westminster

  • John Swinney MSP

The Committee will ask Mr Swinney for his reaction to suggestions that an independent Scotland would have to reapply for EU Membership.

The Committee will also ask for Mr Swinney’s views on recent evidence from Lord West of Spithead that Scotland could lose 10,000 defence jobs in the event of independence.

Mr Swinney will also be asked how the SNP expect national debt to be apportioned between the rest of the UK and an independent Scotland and to justify his assertion that independence would promote an outbreak of entrepreneurship in Scotland.
