Commenting on the ministerial statement made in the House of Commons this morning on the Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Dame Anne Begg MP, Chair of the Work and Pensions Select Committee, said:

"My Committee published a report in February 2012 on replacement of Disability Living Allowance for working-age people by the Personal Independence Payment. In the report we expressed a number of concerns and made recommendations about how PIP and its implementation could be improved.

Today’s statement appears to indicate that the Government has moved some way in response to the concerns set out in our report , including on the implementation schedule for PIP.

The Committee looks forward to exploring these issues in more detail in our oral evidence session with the Minister on 21 January 2013."
