Committee to take evidence from Michael Turner

In the week before his trial in Budapest, the Home Affairs Committee is to take evidence from Michael Turner, a Dorset businessman who was extradited to Hungary in 2009 and held in prison for four months before being released and returned to the UK without facing trial.

    Committee Chair Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP said:

    Something has gone seriously wrong if a British Citizen can be extradited ostensibly to stand trial in another country, when in fact the decision to prosecute has not been taken.

    We want to understand what happened in Mr Turner’s case, and how the European Arrest Warrant can be changed to stop this kind of thing happening in the future.
