The Backbench Business Committee is responsible for scheduling debates on 35 days during the current session, at least 27 of which will be debates in the main Chamber of the House of Commons, with the remainder to be taken in Westminster Hall.

The Committee has determined that the following business will take place in backbench time:

Wednesday 7 March in the Chamber (part day)

Motion relating to human rights abuses and the death of Sergei Magnitsky (Members in charge: Mr Dominic Raab and David Miliband).

The Backbench Business Committee heard this was an issue of topical interest in the light of the forthcoming elections in Russia and that there was considerable cross-party support for a debate.

Thursday 8 March in the Chamber (full day)

Topical debate on International Women’s Day (Members in charge: Fiona Mactaggart, Dame Joan Ruddock, Amber Rudd, and Julie Hilling) (for up to 90 minutes).

The Backbench Business Committee heard there was cross-party support for a debate to be held to discuss issues relating to International Women’s Day (8 March).

Followed by a debate on the future of social care (Sarah Newton and Nicola Blackwood).

The Committee heard this was an issue of cross-party interest which had been the subject of a well-attended Westminster Hall debate.
