European University Association head gives evidence

Lesley Wilson, Secretary General of the European University Association (EUA), will appear before the Lords Consumer Protection and Social Policies EU Sub-Committee on Thursday 2 February, as part of their inquiry into how the EU can contribute to boosting mobility, providing funding for and promoting best practice across Europe’s higher education sector.

The EUA is the official representative of the university sector in the Bologna process 

Ms Wilson will be quizzed on a number of issues including:

  • how beneficial the Bologna process has been for European higher education institutions so far and what the major challenges will be in the coming decade
  • whether enhancing the EU’s contribution to research, education and innovation will help European universities retain their competitive edge over the US and China
  • if a combination of higher tuition fees and increased competition from Continental universities’ could result in less European students studying at universities in the UK
  • the EUA’s views on the proposed ‘U-Multirank’ tool
