The work of the Permanent Secretary

Purpose of session:

This is the Committee’s second evidence session with Helen Ghosh, who took over from David Normington as Permanent Secretary at the Home Office on 1 January 2011. The Committee first took evidence from Helen Ghosh on 5 April 2011. This session, coming almost a year after she took up her post, is an opportunity for the Committee to ask Helen Ghosh what she feels she has achieved in her first 12 months and what are her priorities for the future. It is also a chance for the Committee to question her about the Home Office Annual Report and Accounts, which were published in July 2011.

Committee Chair Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP said:

"We will be talking to Dame Helen about some of the principal challenges facing the Home Office in the year ahead. We are particularly interested in the progress the Home Office has made on making savings from procurement, and in the issue of pay and bonuses.

 

In our report on the Work of the Permanent Secretary we expressed concern about the way in which bonuses are paid to senior staff in the Home Office. We will be following this up with Dame Helen on Tuesday."
