Purpose of the session

Since 2008 departmental select committees have had a formal role in the appointment process of some designated public posts which fall under the remit of their respective Government departments. The post of the Chief Regulator of Qualifications and Examinations is one such post.

Following the commencement of schedule 9 of the Education Act 2011 the role of Chief Regulator will transfer from the Chair of Ofqual to the Chief Executive, currently Glenys Stacey. The Committee is taking evidence from Ms Stacey to assess her suitability for this new role prior to the commencement order being made.

Following the session, the Committee will agree and publish a report, setting out for the Government the Committee’s views on the candidate’s suitability.
