Lords hear from Consumer Representatives and Government Regulators in Freshwater Inquiry

Representatives from the Consumer Council for Water (CCWater) and the Water Services Regulation Authority (Ofwat), the Government’s water watchdog, will be giving evidence to the Lords Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries EU Sub-Committee on Wednesday 25 January. It will be the sixth session of their inquiry, which the Committee hope will influence proposals to shape future EU freshwater policy.
At 11.15am, the Committee will hear from the following representatives from the CCWater:
- Tony Smith, Chief Executive;
- Deryck Hall, Head of Policy & Research; and
- Dr Ana-Maria Millan, Policy Manager.
The Committee will then hear from the following representatives from Ofwat:
- Keith Mason, Senior Director of Finance and Networks; and
- Noel Wheatley, Director of Environmental Policy.
Witnesses will be quizzed on issues including:
- economic instruments, who should pay for future or current benefits and the offering of financial incentives to promote water quality;
- the seriousness of water scarcity and issues around water metering; and
- the ecological status of all rivers in England and Wales.
The evidence session will take place on Wednesday 25 January from 11.15am in Committee Room 3A of the House of Lords.
