Forthcoming European Council to be debated on Thursday 26 January

The Backbench Business Committee is responsible for scheduling debates on 35 days during the current session, at least 27 of which will be debates in the main Chamber of the House of Commons, with the remainder to be taken in Westminster Hall
The Committee has determined that the following business will take place in backbench time:
Thursday 26 January in the Chamber
Topical debate on the European Council (for up to 90 minutes).
The need for a debate prior to the European Council meeting on Monday 30 January has been repeatedly raised by backbench Members at Business Questions.
The debate will precede the general debate on Progress on Defence reform and the Strategic Defence and Security Review, which is scheduled to take place on that day.
