Lords Reform Committee hears from former Lord Speaker, Paul Murphy MP and Lord Cormack

The Joint Committee on the Draft House of Lords Reform Bill hears evidence from Baroness Hayman, the former Lord Speaker, Paul Murphy MP, Lord Cormack and representatives of the Campaign for a Democratic Upper House.

Issues
The committee are expected to ask the witnesses for their views on potential conflicts between an elected second chamber and the House of Commons, and whether current conventions governing the relationship between the two Houses might need to be codified if the Lords were reformed. They are also expected to be asked for their views on the proposals for fixed 15-year terms for members of a reformed House of Lords and on what basis any appointed element of a reformed House should be chosen.
