Chair's comments

Committee Chair Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP said:

"The government are proposing important changes to the immigration rules which will affect many British citizens up and down the country. We will be asking the Minister why he has decided to bring in these changes and what effect he hopes they will have.

We will also be asking the Minister about areas of the work of the UK Border Agency that are of particular concern to the public and for an update on the preparations at ports across the UK for the Olympics.

We are particularly concerned to hear that queues for non-EEA passengers are still unacceptably long at Heathrow Airport, which is expected to receive over half a million visitors during the Olympics. We will want reassurance that this will be sorted out in time for the Olympics."
