Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP visited Brighton on Monday 9 July to look at services for drug users and meet local law enforcement officials.

After a briefing from Chief Superintendent Graham Bartlett, Divisional Commander for Brighton & Hove, Mr Vaz chaired a panel discussion at the Town Hall involving representatives of local organisations working to reduce crime and help drug users and young people.

He then travelled to Brighton Housing Trust, which provides residential rehabilitation services for drug users.

Mr Vaz was accompanied by Caroline Lucas, MP for Brighton Pavilion, who has helped to organise the day’s events.

Chair's comments

Prior to the visit Mr Vaz said:

“I am looking forward to seeing some of the innovations in drug treatment and crime reduction which have been developed in Brighton in recent years.

I am particularly interested in the use of intelligent commissioning, with service specifications based on outcomes rather than pre-defined service standards.”
