The House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee will take further evidence tomorrow on the potential economic impact of Scottish independence, when it questions the British American Security Information Council and Professor Iain McLean.

The Committee will ask the witnesses about how assets including defence assets would be allocated, following written evidence from Professor McLean about possible changes in the SNP’s attitude to membership of NATO, and about the potential difficulties in finding an alternative site for a UK nuclear submarine base.

Witnesses will also be asked about issues such as banking and currency, tax policies and how governance structures across the UK might be affected by Scottish independence.

Witnesses

At 3.35pm, Tuesday 17 July, Committee Room 1, Palace of Westminster

  • Professor Iain McLean, Professor of Politics, Oxford University and a fellow of Nuffield College
  • Mr Paul Ingram, Executive Director of British American Security Information Council (BASIC)
