Home Affairs Committee publishes review of its work in 2010–12
12 June 2012
The House of Commons Home Affairs Committee has published a report on the impact of its work in the 2010–12 Session of Parliament
The Traffic Light Report, the first of its kind, scores Government responses to each of the Committee’s recommendations as green, red or yellow, to indicate whether, in the Committee’s view, they have been accepted by the Government, rejected, or are still under consideration or development.
Rt. Hon Keith Vaz MP, Chair of the Committee, said:
“It is important that Select Committees benchmark their work. Not just produce recommendations, but also see how well Governments have responded. The traffic light system is the best way of doing this.
We intend to ensure that the Home Office is held to account effectively, and I will be writing to Ministers for regular updates on progress in implementing our recommendations. We do not have the Parliamentary time or resources to cover every issue. This report gives us a tool for developing a more strategic approach to scrutiny, which will improve our ability to hold the Home Office to account.
Going forward, we will use this as the basis for the systematic follow-up of our recommendations over the rest of the Parliament.”
