MPs to investigate localised child grooming

The Home Affairs Committee will take evidence on the sexual exploitation of children through “localised grooming” and how it can be prevented.
The evidence session will draw on lessons learnt from the Rochdale case and the findings of national investigations by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre and the Children’s Commissioner.

“Recent cases of child exploitation have shown an ugly and brutal side to our society.
It is vital that we know the truth about why these abuses took place and that we have robust measures to guard against them.
We look forward to questioning local officials from Rochdale Council and the Chief Constable for Greater Manchester Police about what could have been done to prevent the grooming of vulnerable children in Rochdale.
We will also be asking those involved in child protection about their investigations into these atrocities. We must ensure the lessons learned in the most recent cases are not lost”.
