Bob Kerslake questioned on role as Head of Civil Service

Sir Bob took up the role on 1 January 2012, following the retirement of Lord O’Donnell as Head of the Civil Service and Cabinet Secretary. The Committee reported on the decision to split Lord O’Donnell’s role into three: Head of the Civil Service, Cabinet Secretary and Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Office in January 2012.

The Committee will also take evidence from Sir Bob about the Civil Service Reform Plan published earlier this month.

Particular issues to be explored may include:

• The working relationship between Sir Bob and the Cabinet Secretary Sir Jeremy Heywood;
• proposals to open up policy-making in the Civil Service; and
• the level of support among ministers and permanent secretaries for the Civil Service Reform Plan.
