Members of the Home Affairs Select Committee have had a private meeting with US Department of Justice officials.  The Chairman, Rt. Hon Keith Vaz MP, raised the case of bail for Christopher Tappin and the Committee raised the issue of Gary McKinnon and the extradition of British citizens.

The Home Affairs Committee is currently in the USA as part of their ongoing inquiry into drugs.

Rt. Hon Keith Vaz MP, Chair of the Committee, said:

"We were most grateful to the Department of Justice officials for hearing the concerns of the select committee. They asked that I write with specific examples of concerns we have regarding bail for British citizens extradited to the US.

We will write to them in detail about the case of Christopher Tappin and what has happened to him as an example of how the extradition system works."
