Committee Chair Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP said:
Our inquiry had raised troubling questions about the illegal trade in personal data which is carried out by unscrupulous private investigators.
We will be hearing from lawyers involved in the most high profile cases, who will give evidence on the links between private investigators and the justice system.
But theft of personal information is not only about celebrities—it can have a devastating effect on anyone’s life. I will ask the Minister, Lynne Featherstone MP, about the penalties available and what action she is taking to introduce regulation into this industry.
