Welsh Affairs Committee receives Government response on Veterinary Laboratory Services in Wales.

The Welsh Affairs Committee has today published a response from Rt Hon Jim Paice MP, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food, Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

The Committee has replied to the Minister, re-iterating its concerns about the centralisation of testing and future of post-mortem services in Wales.

Both letters can be found here: Government response / Chair's letter

Chair of the Committee David T.C. Davies MP, said: “We are disappointed that the Government will continue with its plans to cease the majority of laboratory testing at the AHVLA Veterinary laboratories at Carmarthen and Aberystwyth. The Government is also currently undertaking a review of its sites for post-mortem examinations. We will continue to monitor the situation and put the case to Ministers that there should not be a reduction in services available to Welsh farmers.”
