The Home Affairs Committee question senior UK Border Agency officials on the accuracy of evidence on Tuesday 27 November 2012.

Witnesses

Tuesday 27 November, The Thatcher Room, Portcullis House

At 3.50pm

  • Lin Homer, Chief Executive and Permanent Secretary, HMRC and former Chief Executive, UK Border Agency
  • Jonathan Sedgwick, Director of International Operations and Visas, UK Border Agency

Chair's comments

Committee Chair Rt. Hon Keith Vaz MP said:

“The Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration’s report has shown that assurances given by senior UKBA officials to the Home Affairs Select Committee about security checks on cases and the size of the backlog appear to be incorrect. It also showed that at one point there was a backlog of 100,000 items of post and there were 150 boxes of unopened mail from asylum applicants, their lawyers and constituency MPs left in a room in Liverpool.

Misleading Parliament is a serious matter and we are calling Lin Homer and Jonathan Sedgwick to account for their actions.”
