Chair's comments
Committee Chair Rt. Hon Keith Vaz MP said:
“The Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration’s report has shown that assurances given by senior UKBA officials to the Home Affairs Select Committee about security checks on cases and the size of the backlog appear to be incorrect. It also showed that at one point there was a backlog of 100,000 items of post and there were 150 boxes of unopened mail from asylum applicants, their lawyers and constituency MPs left in a room in Liverpool.
Misleading Parliament is a serious matter and we are calling Lin Homer and Jonathan Sedgwick to account for their actions.”
