EU Committee to hear evidence from commentators on EU Enlargement

The EU Select Committee will hold the first oral evidence session of the EU enlargement inquiry at 4.10pm on Tuesday 13 November in Committee Room 4. The Committee will hear from Dr. Steven Blockmans (Centre for European Policy Studies), Mr Fadi Hakura (Chatham House) and Ms Kadri Liik (European Council on Foreign Relations).

Members of the public are welcome to attend. The session will be broadcast live online and available afterwards as a video recording. A full transcript will be available on this page in due course.

Areas covered in the Committee's questioning may include:

  • The geopolitical impact of the EU's decisions on enlargement;
  • The rate of progress in some of the aspirant countries, including Serbia and Turkey;
  • The risks of 'enlargement fatigue'; and
  • The potential costs and benefits of EU membership.
