Planned evidence sessions for Government’s aviation strategy inquiry

Transport Committee announces its programme of oral evidence sessions for its inquiry into the Government’s aviation strategy.
On 13 September 2012, the Transport Committee published its terms of reference and a call for written evidence for a new inquiry into UK aviation strategy.
Launching the first phase of oral evidence, Committee Chair Louise Ellman MP said:
“This inquiry will consider an aviation strategy that recognises the importance of both the economy and the environment. It will consider the significance of a ‘hub’ airport as well as capacity in the regions outside London and the South East. We aim to influence the report commissioned by the Government which is not due to report until 2015.”
The Committee will start taking oral evidence next week and plans the following sessions before Christmas:
- Monday 19 November 2012
Representatives from: (i) UK-registered airlines, (ii) foreign airlines, and (iii) tour operators and travel trade. - Monday 3 December 2012
Representatives from: (i) airport operators based in the south east, and (ii) environmental groups, including some of those local to existing airports. - Monday 10 December 2012
Representatives from: (i) NATS and the Civil Aviation Authority, and (ii) airport operators based outside the south east.
The Committee plans to arrange a number of sessions in 2013, which will aim to gather oral evidence incorporating the views of:
(i) UK business, in south east England and other regions
(ii) business aviation airfields
(iii) proponents of a new hub airport
(iv) the Government
