Christopher Snowdon questioned on Charities Act 2006

This is the fifth session of PASC’s post-legislative scrutiny inquiry into the implementation and operation of the Charities Act 2006.
The focus for this session will be political campaigning by charities, and the Committee will hear from representatives of two think-tanks: Christopher Snowdon, Research Fellow of the Institute for Economic Affairs, a think tank which is registered as a charity; and Paul Hackett, Director of the Smith Institute, a not-for-profit think tank
Mr Snowdon is also the author of Sock puppets: How the Government lobbies itself and why, which considers political campaigning by charities in receipt of income from the state.

Particular issues to be explored may include:
- Whether think tanks should have charitable status;
- the current rules on political campaigning by charities; and
