The Parliamentary Commission on Banking Standards holds its next public session on Tuesday 13 November with Stephen Hester, António Horta-Osório and Peter Sands giving evidence

  • Stephen Hester, Chief Executive, RBS Group

Mr Hester was appointed as Group Chief Executive in November 2008. He was previously chief executive of The British Land Company PLC, chief operating officer of Abbey National plc and prior to that held positions with Credit Suisse First Boston including chief financial officer, head of fixed income and co-head of European investment banking. In 2008, Mr Hester served as a non-executive director of Northern Rock plc.

  • António Horta-Osório, Lloyds Banking Group

Mr Horta-Osório became Group Chief Executive in March 2011. He started his career at Citibank Portugal where he was head of capital markets and then worked for Goldman Sachs in New York and London. In 1993, he joined Grupo Santander as Chief Executive of Banco Santander de Negocios Portugal. Mr Horta-Osório joined Santander UK, as a Non-Executive Director in November 2004 and was Chief Executive from 2006 to 2010. He is a Governor of London Business School and formerly a Non-Executive Director of the Court of the Bank of England.

  • Peter Sands, Standard Chartered

Peter Sands joined the Board of Standard Chartered PLC as Group Finance Director in 2002 and was appointed as Group Chief Executive in 2006. Prior to joining Standard Chartered, he was a Director with McKinsey & Co and worked for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Mr Sands is also Lead Non-Executive Director of the Board of the Department of Health.
