Commenting on this week's events in respect of North Wales, Welsh Affairs Committee Chair, David Davies MP, said:

"The Welsh Affairs Committee is very concerned at the fresh allegations of historic child abuse at North Wales care homes and the claims that the Waterhouse Review - which was set up by the then Secretary of State for Wales - failed to uncover the full scale of abuse in the North Wales care system. We welcome the two inquiries announced by the UK Government. While this is a non-devolved area, which falls within our Committee's remit, we would not want to jeopardise the police and independent inquiries.

We will monitor how the two new inquiries develop. The Secretary of State for Wales, the Rt Hon David Jones MP, will give evidence to the Committee on 11 December and we will question him on this issue. The Committee will also make representations to Keith Towler, the Children's Commissioner."
