Home Affairs Committee hears evidence on the Hillsborough Independent Panel Report and localised child grooming in South Yorkshire.

Witnesses

Tuesday 16 October 2012, Committee Room 15

At 2.45pm:

  • David Crompton, Chief Constable, South Yorkshire Police

At 3.15pm:

  • Rt Hon Lord Falconer of Thoroton QC, Margaret Aspinall and Trevor Hicks, Hillsborough Family Support Group, and Sheila Coleman, Hillsborough Justice Campaign.

Committee Chair Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP said:

"The Hillsborough Independent Panel has now published all the official documents relating to the dreadful tragedy in 1989.
The Committee will be asking the Chief Constable of South Yorkshire how his force will respond to the disturbing new findings about the suppression of police evidence that was critical of the Force.
We will also be asking the families what further steps should now be taken in the light of these new revelations.
Chief Constable Crompton will also be addressing the recent, worrying allegations that his Force has, over a decade or more, failed to tackle widespread grooming of underage girls in Rotherham"
