The Administration Committee has today published the House of Commons Commission’s Response to its reports on Visitor Access and Facilities and Television: Rules of Coverage. (First Special Report, Session 2012-13, HC 545).

The response agrees with the Committee that the House can operate more commercially as a tourist attraction, and outlines plans to:

  • open for more commercial tours and increase the range of specialist tours
  •  improve and relocate the House of Commons shop which sells souvenirs and guidebooks to visitors
  • begin online sales of Commons’ souvenirs
  • offer afternoon tea for visitors to the House

The Commission also agrees with the Committee that more should be done to ease access to the House of Commons for visitors, including an ambition to limit queuing times for visitors to no more than 15 minutes.
