Alistair Burt to be questioned on Arms Trade Treaty

The Minister for Counter-Proliferation, Alistair Burt MP, will be answering questions on the Arms Trade Treaty from Members of the Committees.

Background

Following the inconclusive negotiations on the Arms Trade Treaty in New York in July the Chairman of the Committees on Arms Export Controls, Sir John Stanley, wrote to the Foreign Secretary on 20 August asking a number of questions relating to the negotiations that had taken place and how agreement of the Arms Trade Treaty could be taken forward.

Sir John Stanley, said:

“The disappointingly inconclusive negotiations on the Arms Trade Treaty in New York in July leave a number of key questions unanswered. The Committees on Arms Export Controls have put these to the Foreign Secretary and have asked for the answers before the Minister for Counter Proliferation, Alistair Burt, gives further Oral evidence to the Committees at their meeting on Monday September 10 on this potentially ground-breaking Treaty.”
