Proposed new Chair of the Charity Commission questioned

The Public Administration Select Committee (PASC) will hold a pre-appointment hearing on Wednesday 5 September, examining the professional competence and personal independence of the Government's preferred candidate for the post of Chair of the Charity Commission—William Shawcross CVO. The session takes place in Committee Room 16.
Mr Shawcross is a writer, broadcaster and historian, and has been the chairman of RESPONSE, a charity which helps refugees and others who have suffered for their political opinions, since 1978.
