Chair's comments

Committee Chairman Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP said:

“At the end of this year, restrictions on the rights of Bulgarians and Romanians to work in the UK will be lifted. There are no official estimates of how many people will come to the UK, nor of the pressure this will place on public services.

In this session, we ask the Ambassadors of Romania and Bulgaria who and how many will come to the UK and we ask Mark Harper, Immigration Minister, what preparations the Government are making for the new arrivals.”
