Former Chief of Staff to Blair questioned on Civil Service

This will be the ninth session of the Public Administration Select Committee’s (PASC’s) inquiry into the Future of the Civil Service. The Committee will take evidence from Jonathan Powell, former Chief of Staff to Tony Blair as Prime Minister, about the state of the Civil Service.

Particular issues to be explored may include:

  • Mr Powell’s experience of Whitehall as Chief of Staff to then Prime Minister Tony Blair;
  • the challenges facing the Civil Service in the 21st century; and
  • how ministers and officials can work together to govern effectively and efficiently.
