Transport Committee asks for views on road safety and low carbon vehicles, ahead of parliamentary debates.
The House of Commons will be debating Transport Committee reports into road safety (PDF) and low carbon vehicles (PDF) on Thursday 25 April.
Committee Chair Louise Ellman MP said:
“Ahead of the debate we would like to hear views on road safety and low carbon vehicles, particularly in relation to new developments since our reports were published last year. Please get in touch and tell us what you think.
Road safety is a vital issue, especially with the Government’s strategic framework for road safety still in its early days. The DfT has recently signalled that it is looking at improving the safety of young drivers. This is an important issue which the Committee has raised on a number of occasions.
Our report Plug-in Places, Plugged in Policy? focused on the funding and infrastructure available for electric cars and there remain questions about the effectiveness of Government policy. The debates will be an important opportunity to follow up our reports and hold DfT ministers directly to account for policy in these areas.”

The debates will take place in Westminster Hall, beginning at 1.30pm. Each will last up to 90 minutes, with the debate on Plug-in Places, Plugged in Policy? being first. The debates can be followed live at www.parliamentlive.tv.
Also relevant to the debates are the Government’s response to the report on road safety as well as its response to the report on low carbon vehicles. Comments and briefing material relevant to the debate should be emailed to transev@parliament.uk no later than Tuesday 23 April. They will not be published by the Committee but will be made available to Committee Members for use in the debates.
