Today, the UK Statistics Authority have published their response to the Public Administration Select Committee’s report on migration statistics.

Bernard Jenkin, Chair of the Committee, said:

"The Government should be very concerned that the UK Statistics Authority response to PASC’s Report on migration statistics acknowledges many of the problems we identified with the reliability of the statistics. As UKSA says, ‘the statistical sources that are being used to estimate international migration were not designed specifically for the purposes to which they are currently being put.’

As we said in our Report, the current migration statistics are ‘blunt instruments’ for measuring migration, and are not adequate for understanding the scale and complexity of modern migration flows. I look forward to receiving the Government’s response to our Report, which I hope will accept these problems exist and will propose actions to address them."
