The Backbench Business Committee has scheduled a general debate on Thursday 7 February on the closure of accident and emergency (A&E) departments. Mr Virenda Sharma, Patrick Mercer, and Stephen Lloyd appeared before the Backbench Business Committee to request this debate.
This debate follows the first backbench debate of the day on the subject of subsidies for new nuclear. Pending any Statements or Urgent Questions, this debate is likely to commence at around 2.15/2.30pm.

Backbench Business Committee
The Backbench Business Committee meets weekly on Tuesdays at 3pm to consider requests for debates from any backbench Members of Parliament on any subject.
The Committee then has to decide how to allocate the limited Parliamentary time it has at its disposal. The Committee's meetings are always conducted in public and can be watched on Parliament TV
