Lords to question Financial Secretary to the Treasury Greg Clark MP on the euro crisis
1 February 2013
The House of Lords EU Sub-Committee on Economic and Financial Affairs will next week take evidence from Rt Hon Greg Clark MP, Financial Secretary to the Treasury in a follow-up to their report from February 2012 on the euro area crisis.
The Committee will also hear evidence from:
- Sir Nicholas Macpherson, Permanent Secretary to the HM Treasury.
The Committee will quiz the witnesses on the agreement reached at the December European Council on banking union, and why they are convinced it represents a good deal for the UK and the single market. They will also ask about the prospects for further steps towards Economic and Monetary Union, and its implications for the UK in light of the Prime Minister’s speech on the future of the EU.
The Committee will ask whether the Government shares the view of Christine Lagarde and the European Commission’s President Barroso that the eurozone has turned a corner, and whether the EU austerity agenda is politically and economically sustainable.
The evidence session will take place at 10:45am on Tuesday 5 February in Committee Room 3 of the House of Lords.
