The House of Lords Justice, Institutions and Consumer Protection EU Sub-Committee will hold the final session of its inquiry into Combating Fraud and Irregularities Against the EU’s Finances on Monday 11 February, when it will question Algirdas Šemeta, Commissioner for Taxation, Customs Union, Audit and Anti-Fraud

The Committee will have the opportunity to question Mr Šemata on the issues that have arisen during its six-month long inquiry, including:

  • the vulnerability of EU funds to fraud and other financial irregularities;
  • whether the Commission considers VAT fraud to be fraud against the EU’s finances;
  • what more the Commission could do to address the differences in approach of the different Member States to reporting fraud;
  • the effectiveness of the EU’s crime-fighting organisations including OLAF, Eurojust and Europol; and
  • the desirability of a European Public Prosecutors Office.

The evidence session will take place on Monday 11 February at 11.30 am in Committee Room 3.
