Lords Science Committee to hear from David Willetts and NHS Medical Director

The House of Lords Science and Technology Committee will this week take evidence from Ministers David Willetts MP and Earl Howe, as well as NHS Medical Director Sir Bruce Keogh and James Palmer from the NHS Commissioning Board as part of their inquiry into the future of regenerative medicine.

The evidence will be taken in two sessions. Sir Bruce Keogh, Professor Richard Lilford and James Palmer will appear first and be questioned on how the NHS can be made more effective in adopting innovative treatments and technologies, and whether there are adequate delivery systems in place to ensure regenerative medicines can be distributed and delivered effectively across the NHS.

David Willetts MP and Earl Howe will then give evidence. The Committee will ask them what preparations the Government is making to ensure the NHS is ready to make use of regenerative medicines such as autologous cell therapies, how they will stimulate investment by the private sector in regenerative medicines, and what the government will do to help Small and Medium-sized Enterprises to navigate the complex regulatory system.
