The House of Lords Internal Market, Infrastructure and Employment EU Sub-Committee will open its new inquiry, on the effectiveness of EU research and innovation proposals, by questioning Malcolm Harbour CBE on Monday 4 February.

Witnesses

At 5.00pm in Committee Room 2:

  • Malcolm Harbour MEP CBE

Mr Harbour is the Chair of the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection at the European Parliament.

The Committee will quiz Mr Harbour on issues including:

  • the essential elements of an effective research and innovation proposal;
  • if the current modes of Member State cooperation on research and innovation are effective enough and if other methods could also be used
  • whether the EU can add value with ideas and funding in ‘non-traditional’ areas of research and innovation;
  • the rationale behind the European Parliament’s European Added Value Unit; and
  • how the current economic crisis in Europe has affected the research and innovation environment at national and EU levels.
