Chair's comments

Committee Chairman Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP said:

"The task of clearing the Migration Refusal Pool is a vital step towards restoring some faith in the UK’s immigration system. The pool is huge, holding around 175,000 records at the end of June. Capita has been entrusted with the important job of contacting these people and making sure that they leave the UK. Capita’s contract is worth up to £40m of public money and it is crucial that Parliament is able to hold it to account for its performance in clearing this backlog. We will be asking Capita’s executives about the performance metrics in their contract, progress to date and the process they follow in contacting individuals."
