Committee Chairman Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP said:

"The value of online retailing grew by 15% in 2011 and the sector represented 10% of total retail spending in the UK between 2010-11. As shoppers flock to the internet so do criminals, the British Retail Consortium’s Retail Crime Survey found that retailers had lost in the region of £205m to online crime in 2011-12. We will be asking retailers what steps they think need to be taken to safeguard confidence in online retail and increase levels of security, promote consumer awareness and improve the response from law enforcement."
