Lords Quiz Europe Minister David Lidington on European External Action Service

The House of Lords EU Sub-Committee on External Affairs will this week take evidence from Europe Minister David Lidington MP at the conclusion of their inquiry into the role and operation of the European External Actions Service (EEAS).

The Committee are inquiring into the EEAS’ impact on EU foreign policy and whether it has performed effectively. They will also ask what value it adds to the work of foreign ministries and embassies of the individual Member States and to the pre-Lisbon Treaty situation.
The Committee will ask Mr Lidington whether the government consider the EEAS a useful instrument in implementing the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy goals, whether the EEAS has had a positive impact on the EU’s negotiations with Iran and whether the EEAS will provide value for money on its €313m budget in 2013.
