Following the discovery of horsemeat and traces of pig in a number of supermarket beef products, the Environment Food and Rural Affairs Committee will take evidence from the Food Standards Agency and Defra Minister on contamination of beef products on Wednesday 30 January (other witnesses to be announced).

The session is intended to focus on the effectiveness of traceability, labelling and hygiene standards in the food supply chain and the role of government, food processors and retailers; and responsibility for food safety and port entry controls of meat imports.

Interested parties who wish to submit written evidence on these and related matters are invited to do so by Thursday 24 January 2013.
