Lord Goldsmith, Lord Lester and Dominic Raab MP give evidence on Prisoner Voting

The Parliamentary Joint Committee on Prisoner Voting will this week take evidence from former Attorney General Lord Goldsmith and human rights barrister Lord Lester of Herne Hill followed by evidence with Dominic Raab MP and Michael Pinto-Duschinsky, both prominent critics of recent decisions by the European Court of Human Rights.

The session will cover the constitutional implications of the European Court of Human Rights’ ruling on prisoner voting, the potential domestic and international consequences of a UK decision not to comply with the Court’s ruling, and whether sentence length would be an appropriate basis for determining which prisoners would be allowed to vote.
