The House of Lords EU Sub-Committee on Economic and Financial Affairs will next week take evidence from leading economists in a follow-up evidence session on the eurozone crisis.

Witnesses

Tuesday 2 July 2013, Committe Room 3, Palace of Westminster

10.45am:

  • Professor Stephen Haseler, Director, Global Policy Institute.
  • Ruth Lea, Economic Adviser, Arbuthnot Banking Group.
  • Vicky Pryce, former Head of the Government Economic Service and author of Greekonomics: The Euro crisis and why politicians don’t get it.

The session will cover the current economic situation in the Eurozone and whether there is too much focus on austerity and too little on delivering growth. The situation in Greece, the role of the European Central Bank and the performance of the ECB, European Commission and IMF troika will also be discussed.

The Committee will also question the witnesses on the possible impact of the poorly managed Cypriot bailout, the proposals for Genuine Economic and Monetary Union and whether the commitment to breaking the link between bank and sovereign debt is being watered down.
