Professor Paul Ekins will be questioned by the Environmental Audit Committee at 10.00 am on Wednesday 10 July in Committee Room 8, Palace of Westminster, as part of its inquiry into Energy subsidies in the UK.

Issues
There is some debate about whether the lower rate of VAT (5%) on domestic energy bills constitutes a ‘subsidy’. In today’s session the Committee will question Prof Ekins about a report he recently co-authored arguing for this subsidy to be removed and for the additional revenue to be used to target assistance for low-income households more directly.
