Lords Committee to hear from industry representatives on the discard ban

The House of Lords EU Committee will this week take evidence from representatives of fishermen and the seafood industry as part of their short inquiry into reform of the Common Fisheries Policy and the implementation of the discard ban.

The session will cover how economic incentives for fishers can be realigned to ensure a discard ban is effective and what can be done to increase demand for low value fish, whether there is scientific evidence to support an exemption from the ban for fish with a high rate of survival when discarded and how any ban can be properly and fairly enforced across the EU.
