17 June 2013
The House of Lords EU Sub-Committee on Economic and Financial Affairs will next week take evidence from the Chief Economists at Citgroup and Berenberg Bank as well as a Senior Analyst from Elcano Royal Institute of Madrid as part of their inquiry into EU plans for Genuine Economic and Monetary Union (GEMU)
Witnesses
Tuesday 18 June 2013, Committee Room 3, Palace of Westminster
10.20 am:
- Professor Willem Buiter, Chief Economist, Citigroup
- Dr Holger Schmieding, Chief Economist, Berenberg Bank
11.30 am:
- Dr Federico Steinberg, Senior Analyst Elcano Royal Institute, Madrid
The Committee will ask the witnesses for their views on which areas of GEMU are most necessary to resolve the problems identified by the euro area crisis and whether the proposals for banking union will decisively break the link between bank and sovereign debt.
The session will also touch on the possible impact of GEMU on individual Member States and especially the UK.
