Backbench debates for 21 and 25 March

Following its meeting on 12 March, the Committee announced it would schedule debates on i) the post-2015 development agenda and ii) relating to the e-petition on preventable cardiac deaths arising from Sudden Adult Death Syndrome. These debates will take place on 21 and 25 March respectively.

Thursday 21 March in Westminster Hall

• General debate relating to the post-2015 development agenda (Members in charge: Hugh Bayley, James Duddridge and Bridget Phillipson)

Monday 25 March in Westminster Hall

• General debate relating to the e-petition on preventable cardiac deaths arising from Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (Member in charge: Steve Rotheram). The e-petition is entitled "The Oliver King Foundation - SADS".

The Committee has used its powers to convene a sitting in Westminster Hall on a Monday afternoon from 4.30 – 7.30 pm on the subject of an e-petition.

How the subject was selected

The subject for this debate was determined by the Backbench Business Committee following its meeting on 12 March 2013.

E-petitions

The Committee can consider any subject for debate, including those raised in e-petitions or national campaigns but an MP must go before the Committee to make the case for their consideration.

The Backbench Business Committee has yet to receive a representation from a Member in regard to the following e-petitions which have received over 100,000 signatures on the Government’s e-petitions website:

  • Restoration of Age Related Tax Allowances
  • Protect Police Pensions
